Despite the wealth of its mines, Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world. International aid represents 40% of the state budjet, which doesn’t prevent the country from suffering chronic food shortages. There is not one village that is not dependant, one way or another, on a project supported by foreign cooperation or an NGO from the North.
But things are beginning to improve. A whole generation of young Nigerean graduates have decided to invest in what they called Civil Society, to help the poorest farmers ( 80% of the population) to take their future into their own hands. These young graduates make use of modern forms of communication such as the Digital Travelling Cinema to break the yoke of dependance and incite the farmers to find their own solutions.
